Latest community engagement event will update local people on progress and next steps of this major regeneration project to create a brand new city quarter for York
The strategic development partners behind the York Central development are hosting the next in a series of community engagement events to update the community about progress and outline the next steps for this major regeneration project.
McLaren Property and Arlington Real Estate are hosting a drop-in event at the Guildhall in York city centre on the 31 st July (3pm – 7pm) for the local community to come and meet the team and find out
more about their plans.
This event forms part of an ongoing community engagement programme, following activity last year and a previous community drop-in session held in February.
McLaren Property and Arlington Real Estate are working in close partnership with Homes England, Network Rail, City of York Council and the National Railway Museum, who will also be in attendance to help answer questions about the important role they are playing in helping deliver York Central.
Tom Gilman, Managing Director of McLaren Regeneration, said:
“We’re committed to involving the community as we further develop our plans for York Central to help ensure we create a brand new city quarter that local people can be truly proud of. We had a great response at our last drop in event, with over 160 people attending to find out more about the development and we look forward to engaging with visitors old and new on the day.”
York Central has outline consent to deliver 2,500 new homes (at least 20% of which will be affordable) and will offer up to one million sq ft of office, retail and hospitality space, along with improvements to the York Railway Station and an enhanced National Railway Museum. York Central will also include extensive park land and public realm, including two vibrant public squares that will connect the new development to the surrounding neighbourhoods and the adjacent York City Centre.
Located next to York railway station, York Central has the potential to generate 6,500 jobs and will help to grow York’s future economy by 20%, by adding £1.16bn GVA to the city.
A planning application covering the first phase of the masterplan is expected to be submitted to the Council later this year, and before this an extensive consultation process will take place with the local community and stakeholders.
